Love at the Crossroads
Membership at Mount Pleasant ChurchWhat’s in it for me?
The primary reason to become an active member at Mount Pleasant Church is to identify with the characteristics of spiritual maturity and commitment to the mission of the church. Members are critical as they own our church’s Mission Statement, that “We believe that God's primary purpose for Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ and to represent His good and perfect will in our community and beyond, through our efforts to nurture, to reach out, and to witness to others.”
Why join?
At Mount Pleasant Church, we believe membership is important in a local church for many reasons:
·Personal – Membership encourages spiritual growth as scripture places a major emphasis on the need for Christians to be accountable to each other. At Mount Pleasant, our desire is to encourage everyone to be on the path, actively participating in the journey to spiritual maturity.
·Cultural – We live in an age where few want to be committed to anything. Membership swims against that current thinking, allowing us the opportunity to share hope with people in need of something called “God’s grace.”
·Biblical – Jesus is committed to the church. Ephesians 5:25 says that “Christ loved the church, and gave His life for her.” Membership in a local church is an important step in demonstrating our commitment to Jesus.
Expectations for Membership
·To worship regularly and invite friends, family, and co-workers to join you.
·To pray for Mount Pleasant Church and those who are “not yet” a part of the church community–the Body of Christ–the Church.
·To participate in ongoing opportunities for biblical knowledge and spiritual growth.
·To serve others in a meaningful ministry using your gifts in helping others to know Jesus Christ.
·To tithe (or work towards tithing) your income as scripture teaches us to give the first 10% of our income to God.
The membership vows for United Methodists say that members are "to faithfully participate in its ministries by their prayers, their presence, their gifts, their service, and their witness."
