A Ministry That Began With One Child
In 1995, Jared Austin, a young member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church who had been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, needed a wheelchair. When Jared’s need was brought before the Forever Young Sunday School Class, the group responded by organizing a golf tournament to help purchase the equipment he needed.
The tournament was a tremendous success. The class decided to continue its efforts by creating an ongoing fund to support Jared. In 1997, at Jared’s request, the mission expanded to help others in our community - children and adults alike - who face extraordinary medical needs and expenses.

Making a Difference
Through the annual golf tournament and the generosity of our community, the Jared Austin & Children’s Fund has now provided assistance to more than 100 individuals and families.
Funds have helped provide:
Wheelchairs and ongoing wheelchair maintenance
Vehicle lift systems and other transportation equipment
Prosthetic limbs and other medical equipment
Hospital bills and medical treatments
Physical and occupational therapy
Home renovations to create wheelchair-accessible spaces
Medications and insulin pumps
Cancer treatment and other critical medical expenses
Assistance with unexpected out-of-pocket medical costs
Since the fund was established, more than $257,000 in benefits have been provided to individuals and families in need.
2027 Golf Tournament
The tradition continues with our annual golf tournament on Saturday, May 1, 2027, at Brookwood Golf Course in Whitsett, NC. Tee time is 8:30 a.m.
The continued success of this ministry depends on the generous support of local businesses, organizations, and individuals.
Become a Sponsor
Corporate sponsorships are $150 and include professionally produced signage displayed at the golf course on the day of the tournament. There is no limit to the number of sponsorships available, and every sponsor helps us continue this important ministry.
We also welcome donations of gift certificates, golf equipment, golf attire, sport jackets, or other items that can be used as prizes and drawings during the tournament.
Your support can help provide essential equipment, treatment, and assistance to someone facing a significant medical need.
